RK Mechanical is leading the mechanical construction industry in building information modeling (BIM) technology. With a team of BIM detailers bringing nearly 240 years of combined CAD experience, our team brings the best of computer technology and field experience to each project we perform. Thanks to first-hand, field-based knowledge of how systems fit and function in actual environments, our team has an edge on the competition. By going beyond the computer screen, our designers can more effectively run clash detection and anticipate conflicts before they materialize in the field, ultimately providing our customers with the best coordinated solutions.
State-of-the-art 3-D software helps maintain RK Mechanical as the mechanical contracting pioneer of the BIM world. By deploying BIM on each project performed, we deliver enhanced latitude and accuracy across the board. Our team always works from the latest version of software available, ensuring delivery of the highest quality and most current finished product to our customers. AutoCAD Architecture/MEP
We use AutoCAD Architecture/MEP as our primary design tool, taking advantage of many of its built-in parametric objects as well as its project management functionality in the project navigator.
Autodesk Fabrication CADmep
Autodesk Fabrication software is an add-on for AutoCAD that lets us lay out systems using real-world parameters that accurately reflect what’s ultimately going to be installed in the field. After generating our building information model, we use the MAP software to generate shop drawings and send data directly to the RK shop for production of precise parts. This software also exports the data needed to accurately place products where they have been virtually coordinated and ensure seamless installation in the field.
Navisworks Manage (Navis)
Navis is used by contractors, subcontractors and related trades to coordinate layouts and mitigate installation conflicts in the field. This pre-planning saves time, money and resources by eliminating the burden of working around existing conditions after fabrication or installation.
Revit
We deploy Revit to use models received from outside design sources. In some instances engineered mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) designs are exported directly to the pre-coordinated fabrication software, making it easier and faster to get parts into the field for installation. Future uses of Revit include sending designs directly to the shop for fabrication and further expediting the process from engineered systems to fabricated parts (pending integration by Autodesk).
3ds Max
We use 3ds Max to visualize conceptual ideas that cannot be expressed with general design tools, such as prefabricated assemblies or mechanical rooms, to provide a more realistic view of what is going on. In addition, we also utilize Adobe Photoshop and After Effects in conjunction with our 3D software for post-production tasks.
Vault
Future implementation of the Autodesk Vault data management server will maintain various versions of drawings and enhance project flow by making drawings available instantly and simultaneously to field, office and shop personnel.
In-house Workstations
The installation of new custom-built workstations accommodates the unique needs of our team at a fraction of the cost, leading to increased efficiency and team ability. With the most powerful workstations on the market, our team can handle even the largest projects with ease.
Custom
We employ in-house developers to create scripts and add-ins, turning laborious manual tasks into quick and easy automated executions. Time is saved, the risk of human error is removed, and efficiency is increased.
Miscellaneous
In addition to the aforementioned solutions, we also occasionally use other software to meet the needs of a specific project or customer.
Autodesk Design Review
High quality/small size of design data and models for distribution/markups.
Bluebeam Software
Used for field collaboration.
Adobe Photoshop
Used for miscellaneous raster imaging requirements.
Adobe After Effects
Used for post production tasks.
Adobe Illustrator
Used for miscellaneous vector imaging tasks.
